CALIB Manual - Preface

[Chapter 1] [Table of Contents]

Preface

The program CALIB, was written at the Quaternary Isotope Lab, University of Washington, and is maintained by Paula Reimer and Ron Reimer. The CALIB program rev 1.0 was originally published in Radiocarbon (Stuiver and Reimer, 1986), was subsequently revised up to rev 2.0 in 1987, 3.0 in 1993 (Stuiver and Reimer, 1993), and 4.0 in 1998. Rev 5.0 was updated to use the INTCAL04 dataset and ported to the Mac OSX operating system by Ron Reimer in 2004.

The CALIB distribution consists of a number of files. Besides the executable file, there are several files containing the calibration datasets. They are intcal04.14c, marine04.14c, shcal04.14c, and uwsy98.14c. These must reside in the same folder as the executable. Additionally, there is a preferences file named calcopt. Most of the preferences it contains are selectable from within the program, but a few are accessable only by editing the file with a text editor. Its format should not be disturbed. A template for a comma-separated variable input file, named c14inp.csv is provided. Finally, a folder named manual contains these pages in HTML format.

Development of CALIB has been supported by the University of Washington, Queens University of Belfast, and the National Science Foundation. No distribution of CALIB for commercial purposes is permitted. The supporting institutions and the authors hereby disclaim all warranties, whether expressed or implied, relating to this software.
